The Tasmanian Family Adventure is a 6-day exploration of Australia’s beautiful island state, offering a perfect mix of nature, wildlife, and history. From the vibrant city of Hobart to the stunning wilderness of Freycinet National Park, this tour is packed with family-friendly activities, wildlife encounters, and opportunities to explore Tasmania’s rich cultural heritage.
Arrive in Hobart, Tasmania’s charming capital, where you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. After settling in, embark on a guided city tour that introduces you to Hobart’s fascinating history and vibrant culture. Visit the Salamanca Market (on Saturdays), where local artisans display their crafts, or explore Battery Point, a historic district with beautifully preserved colonial-era buildings. Take a stroll along the Hobart waterfront, where you can see fishing boats docked at Constitution Dock and sample fresh seafood at local eateries. End the day with a scenic walk along the Derwent River before returning to your hotel.
After breakfast, head out on a full-day adventure to Freycinet National Park, one of Tasmania’s most iconic natural landmarks. The park is famous for its pink granite mountains, secluded bays, and white-sand beaches. Begin your exploration with a hike to the Wineglass Bay Lookout, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters and crescent-shaped beach. For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the park offers easy walking trails along Hazards Beach or Cape Tourville, offering spectacular coastal views. Afterward, relax and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by nature before returning to Hobart in the late afternoon.
Today, you’ll travel to the Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s most important convict-era landmarks. Begin with a guided tour of the site, which was once a penal settlement for Britain’s toughest convicts. Explore the well-preserved ruins, including the Penitentiary, the Commandant's House, and the Convict Church. You’ll also take a short boat cruise around the Isle of the Dead, where convicts and free settlers were buried during the prison’s operation. Learn about the hardships faced by convicts and the history of the penal colony, making it a thought-provoking experience for the entire family. Return to Hobart in the evening.
Today is dedicated to Tasmania’s unique wildlife. Visit the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, where you’ll have the opportunity to see and interact with native animals such as Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, koalas, and wombats. Bonorong is a sanctuary focused on wildlife conservation, and the experienced guides will provide you with fascinating insights into the lives and habits of the animals. The kids will love feeding kangaroos and learning about the rehabilitation efforts for endangered species. In the afternoon, take a short drive to the nearby Richmond Village, a charming historic town known for its beautifully preserved Georgian architecture and Australia’s oldest bridge.
This morning, enjoy a scenic drive to the summit of Mount Wellington, which towers 1,271 meters above Hobart. As you ascend, you’ll pass through lush forests and enjoy panoramic views of the Derwent River and Hobart below. Once at the top, take in the spectacular 360-degree views that stretch as far as Bruny Island and the Southern Ocean on a clear day. There are several walking trails on the mountain, offering both easy strolls and more challenging hikes. After descending from Mount Wellington, spend the afternoon exploring Cascade Gardens or visiting the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), which showcases an eclectic mix of contemporary and ancient works.
On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before checking out of your hotel. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time to do some last-minute shopping at the Salamanca Place or relax at one of Hobart’s waterfront cafes. You’ll be transferred to Hobart Airport for your return flight or have the option to extend your stay to explore more of Tasmania’s stunning landscapes.
